Almost Valentines

So, we’re an odd couple. We’ve established this. But here’s another odd thing about us: we don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day.  There are a lot of reasons, but most of them aren’t objections to the day itself – we don’t mind a celebration of love in any form! But the main reason we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day is that it falls in the most exhausting time of the whole year. Mostly for me. I spend the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day (and only these few weeks) getting up before the sun, getting to work before the sun comes up, and spending my whole day in darkness. (Any guesses as to what job requires these shenanigans?). So, Whiskey is patient with me while I am exhausted for weeks on end.

Here are some of my favorite Valentine’s Day celebrations from our history:

  • Whiskey meeting me in a mobile planetarium and listening to constellation legends I told him, then presenting me with a gorgeous sun necklace. (This is actually a good one.)
  • Me crashing on the couch after a single glass of champagne while Whiskey played video games.
  • Going to bed at 8 pm because why is the sun always gone?
  • Watching movies in my PJs because all the time is nighttime.
  • A FULL evening of watching The Waltons, because Pa Walton passed away and I am an emotional disaster.

Why does he love me, again?

In any case, don’t forget that Valentine’s Day is coming up! If you and your partner celebrate, celebrate your way and ENJOY!

Champagne

It’s true, we don’t object to celebrations of love. And it is also true, Valentine’s Day comes at a time when it is most inconvenient to try to plan a romantic night of romantic romance. So instead we focus on keeping each other happy throughout the stressful time, and save the romance for when there’s more breathing room. It works better for us, and we don’t let the idea that Valentine’s is a ‘Big Deal’ hold any credit. What makes your partner happy is a much better guide than pretty much anything else.

Love,

Whiskey
